Link: What Not To Wear on a Job Interview

Posted by crisfdez on 15 October, 2008

Hey, there. It’s been a little while! Things have been extremely busy over on my end. I do have a few moments, however, to share a link with you all: What Not To Wear on a Job Interview by workforce development guru Allison Doyle. I thought it was a good follow-up to my recent post on first impressions (despite my totally disagreeing with her about the hosiery).

My esteemed colleague Eileen shared a few tips in a recent comment: “Lift your arms in the morning. Can we see your belly button? Lean over. Can we see too much cleavage[?] Bend over. Can we see your undies? Sorry, but your outfit is not work appropriate.” I actually perform this check every day before I head off to work, just in case. Since my new position has me performing different tasks, I’ve actually found that items of clothing that used to be okay are no longer work appropriate. It’s important to maintain an office-friendly wardrobe!

I would also like to add something to the tip about perfume/cologne in the article. Some people have allergies or sensitivities to perfumes, so go easy on it or forgo it altogether when you’re going to an interview. Making the hiring manager break out in hives or start feeling nauseous will not help your chances of getting hired in the least.
